HOW TO PLANT AUBERGINE
Aubergines love warmth, so January is the ideal time to start them indoors in the UK. Begin by filling small pots or seed trays with fine, free draining compost and gently firming the surface. Sow one or two seeds per pot, placing them about 0.5–1 cm deep, then lightly cover with compost. Water gently to settle the soil.
Place your pots somewhere warm and bright, aubergines need consistent heat to germinate, ideally 20–25°C. A heated propagator or warm windowsill works well. Keep the compost moist but not wet, and seedlings should appear within 7–14 days. Once the plants develop their first true leaves, thin to the strongest seedling per pot. As they grow, pot them on into larger containers, keeping them warm and well lit. With patience and care, your aubergine plants will be ready to move into a greenhouse or sunny outdoor spot later in Spring, rewarding you with glossy, flavour packed fruits in Summer
