WHAT’S INSIDE THE JUNE GROW KIT
June is a wonderful month for growing. The garden is thriving, the soil is warm and there’s still plenty of time to sow crops that will reward you later in the season. This month’s Grow Kit features Carrots, Dwarf Runner Beans and Chives, a trio chosen for easy growing, fresh flavour and productive harvests.
Taking centre stage this week are Carrots, one of the most satisfying vegetables to grow. From tiny seeds emerge crisp, colourful roots that develop quietly beneath the soil before revealing themselves at harvest time. Whether grown in raised beds, containers or traditional vegetable plots, carrots are a rewarding crop for gardeners of all experience levels.

CARROTS
Carrots are a kitchen staple and for good reason, sweet, crunchy and packed with nutrients, they can be enjoyed fresh, roasted, steamed or added to countless recipes. Growing your own allows you to harvest roots at their peak flavour and freshness, giving a taste that's hard to match from shop bought produce.
They’re also a fantastic crop for smaller spaces and can be grown successfully in deep pots and containers, making them accessible for almost any growing setup.

HOW TO GROW CARROTS
Sow carrot seeds directly into finely prepared soil or deep containers. Scatter seeds thinly in shallow drills around 1cm deep and lightly cover with soil. Water gently and keep the soil consistently moist during germination.
Choose a sunny position with stone free, well drained soil to encourage straight roots. As seedlings emerge, thin them carefully to give each carrot enough room to develop.
Harvest when roots reach a good size, pulling gently from moist soil. Succession sow every few weeks for a continuous supply throughout the growing season.
