Charlotte Potatoes
Charlotte potatoes are a much loved, waxy variety known for their smooth texture and rich, buttery flavour. Perfect for boiling, steaming or tossing into fresh salads, they hold their shape beautifully and bring a real sense of homegrown quality to your cooking.
They’re also one of the most rewarding crops to grow. Whether planted in pots, grow bags or directly in the ground, Charlotte potatoes are reliable, productive and ideal for gardeners of all levels. From the first green shoots to the moment you dig them up, they offer that satisfying connection to the soil and the season.

How to Grow Charlotte Potatoes
Start by chitting your seed potatoes in a cool, bright place until short shoots begin to form. Plant them from March to April in pots, grow bags or garden beds filled with rich, well drained compost. Place each potato about 10–15 cm deep, with the shoots facing upwards, and space them well apart.
As the plants grow, gradually cover the stems with compost (known as “earthing up”) to protect developing potatoes from light. Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during dry spells.
Plants will be ready to harvest in around 10–12 weeks, once flowers appear or the foliage begins to die back. Gently dig down to uncover your potatoes fresh, flavourful and ready to enjoy.
