WHAT’S INSIDE THE AUGUST GROW KIT

August is a wonderful month for keeping your garden productive. While many summer crops are reaching their peak, there's still plenty of time to sow fresh vegetables and herbs that will provide harvests throughout late summer, autumn and even into the festive season. This month's Grow Kit brings together Festive Charlotte Potatoes, Mizuna and Sage, three rewarding crops chosen for their flavour, versatility and ease of growing.
This week, we're putting the spotlight on Mizuna, one of the quickest and most productive salad leaves you can grow. Its finely cut, feathery leaves have a mild peppery flavour that adds freshness to salads, sandwiches, stir-fries and soups. Fast to germinate and ready to harvest in just a few weeks, mizuna is perfect for gardeners looking for quick results and continuous picking throughout the season.
Every Monthly Grow Kit includes premium, open-pollinated seeds, plant labels and easy-to-follow growing guides to help you succeed from your very first sowing. You can also customise your kit with our premium compost mix, biodegradable pots and recycled plastic saucers, giving every seed the strongest possible start.
Whether you're growing on a windowsill, in containers, raised beds or a vegetable patch, August's Grow Kit is designed to keep you growing with confidence and enjoying fresh, homegrown food from Pot to Plate.

MIZUNA
Mizuna is one of the quickest and easiest leafy vegetables you can grow. Originating from Japan, it produces elegant, feathery leaves with a mild peppery flavour that works beautifully in salads, sandwiches, stir-fries and soups.
Ideal for succession sowing, mizuna germinates quickly and can be harvested as baby leaves in just a few weeks. It thrives in raised beds, containers and window boxes, making it perfect for gardeners with limited space.
One of mizuna's greatest strengths is its cut-and-come-again nature. Harvest the outer leaves regularly and the plant will continue producing fresh growth throughout late summer and into autumn.

HOW TO SOW AND GROW MIZUNA
Step 1: Choose a Location
Select a sunny or lightly shaded position with fertile, well drained soil.
Step 2: Prepare the Soil
Work compost into the soil and rake to create a fine seed bed.
Step 3: Sow the Seeds
Sow seeds around 1cm deep in rows approximately 30cm apart or scatter thinly in containers.
Step 4: Water
Water gently after sowing and keep the soil consistently moist while seeds germinate.
Step 5: Thin Seedlings
Once seedlings appear, thin them to around 15–20cm apart.
Step 6: Care
Keep the area weed free and water during dry weather to encourage tender leaves.
Step 7: Harvest
Begin harvesting baby leaves after around three weeks or allow plants to mature slightly for larger leaves. Pick little and often to encourage continuous growth.

Mizuna & Parmesan Salad with Lemon Dressing
Light, fresh and full of flavour, this mizuna and Parmesan salad combines peppery leaves with crunchy toasted pine nuts and a bright lemon dressing. It's the perfect side salad for barbecues, pasta dishes or grilled meats.
